Music

At Henlow, we want every student to know the power of music: to experience music ‘from the inside’ as performers and creators, and to understand how music fits into the world at large. We aim to give students the knowledge and skills they need for music to play a positive part in the rest of their lives, whether this involves performing, creating, or appreciating.

Key Stage 3 music lessons include a wide range of music styles and genres. The department is incredibly well resourced with a wide range of instruments available including; Ukuleles, Keyboards, PBones, Djembe drums and Samba Drums to name a few. Each student also has a Charanga login which allows students to compose music online and has fast become one of the students favourite activities in Music.

Music is offered at GCSE using the Eduqas board which provides flexibility to our students. In Years 7 & 8 music is part of the electives giving students the opportunity to learn more about music production or experience playing in a band or other ensembles.

Outside of the classroom Music has a wide range of exciting performance opportunities. Through our links supporting Barnardos we have performed at prestigious venues including the Royal Albert Hall and Southwark Cathedral. We also perform annually at the O2 as part of the Young Voices concert series. Extra-curricular clubs include Henlow Harmony, Boys Out Loud, Girls Out Loud, Boomwhackers and Ukulele Group.

Inspiring Music the Central Bedfordshire Music Hub provides instrumental lessons across a wide range of instruments; Guitar, Singing, Keyboard, Violin, Saxophone and Drums. We also have an excellent Brass teacher. There is a good uptake of instrumental lessons and pupil premium students are financially supported to allow access for all.
