Collective Worship

What is Collective Worship?

Collective Worship is an opportunity for the whole school to come together and take part in acts of collective worship.

Collective Worship is delivered to students, across all year groups, on a daily basis and is centred around the core values of Henlow:

Honesty, Enthusiasm, Nurture, Love, Originality and Wisdom.

All of the information regarding the aims and purposes of Collective Worship can be found in the Collective Worship Policy - accessible via our school website.

Why is Collective Worship so imperative?

Collective Worship underpins the Christian ethos of our school, following the structure of our school values, and is an integral element of being a Church of England School.

Not only is Collective Worship something of value to our school, but it is also a legal requirement which is overseen by SIAMS (Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools).

SIAMS aims to ensure that Church schools employ a variety of strategies and styles appropriate to, and reflective of, their particular context, in order to be distinctively and effectively Christian in both their character and ethos.

What does Collective Worship look like across the course of the academic year?

Each half term our Collective Worship programme follows a specific Henlow school value and multiple other inter-linking values.

How is Collective Worship delivered?

Each week there are a set of Google Slides presentations for each Key Stage to work through. All slides are arranged in a consistent format, based on the value of the week, as follows:

  • Monday          - Introduction

  • Tuesday         - Quotation from the Bible to discuss

  • Wednesday   - Story from the Bible

  • Thursday        - Real Life example (e.g. a video linked to the value)

  • Friday              - Reflective question/activity (using reflective journals)

How is Collective Worship delivered?

  • Daily - during morning registration, via weekly Google Slides presentations.

  • The slides can be presented by students or by a member of staff.

  • There are a variety of mediums through which Collective Worship is delivered - e.g. using stories, music and media.

  • Each Friday there is a reflective activity, which corresponds to a page within the students’ collective worship booklets.
