Welcome to

Henlow Church of England Academy

I am proud to welcome you to Henlow Church of England Academy and hope that the insight you gain through our website and prospectus will convince you to visit us to fully appreciate our approach to learning. We have just over 500 pupils on roll across years 5 to 8 and enjoy strong links with our feeder lower schools of All Saints, Derwent, Langford, Meppershall and Raynsford. Each year pupils also join us from a wider range of schools including children of military personnel and families wishing to continue their links with the church. Our vibrant sense of community and 'Henlow Values' really come alive on a daily basis.

Our 57 clubs a week, sporting successes, artistic opportunities, contributions to charity and engagement across our community reflects the emphasis we place on developing fully rounded individuals. Our ethos focusses on encouraging a love of learning; supporting and extending pupils across the ability range to take their next steps towards academic success. Pupils enjoy their lessons and take pride in their achievements; staff and parents appreciate the growing confidence we regularly see.

We gained an Ofsted 'Good' in 2015 and the full inspection report can be accessed via the website link opposite. I include a few key points here because I know all parents are looking for a school in which their child will be safe, happy, fulfilled and achieving their potential:

  • ‘The academy’s work to keep pupils safe and secure is outstanding.’
  • ‘Pupils enjoy school and are keen to participate in the many appealing activities it offers  them, including additional sporting activities.’
  • ‘The academy has given a high profile to improving writing and pupils’ progress is above that expected nationally.’

We are proud of our exam results both at Key Stage 2 and our own progress measures for the four years pupils spend in our school. The new key measure established by the government relates to the percentage of pupils meeting age related expectations in reading, writing and maths. Henlow Academy's pupils achieved above both the local authority and the national average in 2016.

A year at Henlow CE Academy

I can hardly believe that a whole academic year has gone by!

Henlow is such a busy school with so many extra-curricular activities, that we sometimes forget how much learning has also taken place.

Progress this year has been tremendous and pupils have worked very hard to achieve excellent personal targets in all subjects.

It is difficult to sum up in words the breadth of experiences offered by Henlow CE Academy to its pupils, so here is a photo montage of many of the activities we have held this year. I know it will give you a flavour of life here at Henlow.
