Double helping of changes as Henlow Academy goes from strength to strength

In time for parents' minds turning to school admissions next year, Henlow Church of England Academy announces that it will be permitted to include years 9, 10 and 11 from September 2021, with the first Year 9 pupils arriving that year. This places it at the heart of Phase 1 of Central Bedfordshire’s ‘Schools for the Future’ programme.

As a leading Church of England Academy within Central Bedfordshire, it is also announcing a change from being a Single Academy Trust to become the Poppy Hill Church of England Multi-Academy Trust in the new year. The new Trust will admit Meppershall Church of England Academy as its first member school.

The Trust will be open to church and community schools and will continue to place a strong emphasis on providing a high-quality education for all.

Perry Huntley, Proposed Chair of the Multi Academy Trust, commented:

With the transition from a Single Academy Trust to the Poppy Hill Multi Academy Trust, we will continue to provide high-quality education inspired by our Christian ethos and character which is proven in creating thriving schools offering education to the whole community."

The Bishop of Bedford, the Rt Revd Richard Atkinson OBE, who chairs the St Albans Diocesan Board of Education, commented:

In admitting a wider age-range and becoming a Multi Academy Trust, the Poppy Hill Church of England Multi Academy Trust will be well placed to make the most of the opportunities that Central Bedfordshire's Schools for the Future programme will bring, serving a wider range of local families and schools, including aiding the continued improvement of Meppershall Church of England Academy."
