The Learning Centre

Welcome To The Learning Centre

The Learning Centre is a small group of 6 - 10 pupils. Its composition is carefully thought-out to create a balanced and functional group. Its purpose is to offer children opportunities to revisit early learning skills and promote and support their social and emotional development.

There is much research evidence that children’s learning is most effective when they have a sense of emotional well being, good self esteem and a feeling of belonging to their school community.

The Learning Centre provides children with this opportunity and so helps to develop their maturity and resilience.

The group is lead by a member of staff qualified in ‘The Theory and Practice of Nurture Groups’, alongside specialist teachers and experienced TA’s.

We follow the six principles of Nurture -

  • Children's learning is understood developmentally

  • The classroom offers a safe base

  • The importance of nurture for the development of wellbeing

  • Language is a vital means of communication

  • All behaviour is communication

  • Transitions are significant in the lives of children

Pupils will attend the Learning Centre but remain an active part of their main class group, spending appropriate time within the Learning Centre according to their needs. As the pupils learn academically and socially they develop confidence, become responsive to others, learn self-respect and take pride in behaviour and in achieving.
